Sessions focus on healthy relationships, coping with trauma, building confidence, and preparing for a successful life after incarceration.

Solutions From the Yard Podcast

Hosted by VSC’s Train Our Voices graduates Charles Hopkins, Michael Dickerson El, and Dietrich Trent, Solutions From the Yard is a monthly podcast born out of conversations that began inside D.C. correctional facilities. The podcast brings authentic, firsthand perspectives to the forefront of discussions on incarceration, reentry, and social change.

Each episode offers space for returning citizens to share their stories, reflect on the challenges of reentry, and spark meaningful dialogue around issues like trauma, homelessness, employment, mental health, family, and the 13th Amendment. Through honesty, empathy, and lived experience, the hosts challenge stigma and offer pathways toward collective healing and systemic transformation.

Solutions From the Yard embodies VSC’s commitment to amplifying the voices of returning citizensturning lived experience into leadership and personal stories into community solutions.

❝ We’re speaking for the brothers and sisters still behind those bars who don’t have a voice. And we try to find solutions for some of the issues that brothers and sisters still face. ❞ — Solutions From the Yard Host, Dietrich Trent
